Nioh 2 vs The Surge 2 – The Definitive Comparison

Nioh 2 vs The Surge 2 - The Definitive Comparison

Hi guys! Today I will talk about Nioh 2 vs The Surge 2. I will do a comparison between them and I will let you be the judge of which game is better. First I will talk about the storyline of those 2 games, then I will talk about the difference or similarities in their gameplay, and lastly, I will compare the visuals and tell you my final thoughts. Now let’s begin.

Storyline

Both games have forgettable storylines, although Nioh 2 has some good moments. Having a character creation system means that the main characters never speak so that takes a lot from the story and even though some games like Breath of the Wild managed to have amazing stories even without the main character speaking, the same can’t be said for these two games.

It’s not a bad thing if you don’t care so much about the story, since they offer a lot when it comes to gameplay, but if you are one of those people that want a game to have a very good story to be able to enjoy it, then I wouldn’t recommend either game.

Gameplay

There are differences in the way you approach combat between these two games. In Surge 2 you have to choose one of the enemies’ body part to focus your attacks on, and before you make that choice you have to consider whether or not you want the enemies’ armor(since you have to cut the limb with the armor part you want in order to unlock that armor part) or you just want to kill the enemy fast and that means targeting a body part that isn’t armored if there is one. Besides the armor, you can also equip implants that give you different buffs and abilities.

Nioh 2 on the other hand, has three different stances available for each weapon and each weapon has its own skill tree and that gives a lot of variety when it comes to combat. Nioh 2 also has ninja and onmyo skill trees, a skill tree for the transformation(since you transform into a yokai), and a samurai skill tree. Long story short Nioh 2 has a more complex combat system than Surge 2, now that doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s better, both games are good in their own way.

Both games also offer a variety of weapons(Nioh 2 also has unique skill trees for each weapon), so if you are someone that gets bored using the same weapon over and over again you won’t have to worry.

As for the enemies, both games have a lot of different kinds of enemies and bosses for you to fight but Nioh 2 offers a lot more bosses and the bosses of Nioh 2 are more interesting and entertaining to fight against than the bosses of Surge 2.

Lastly, let’s talk about difficulty. Nioh 2 is a lot more challenging than Surge 2 and a lot harder to get into since it has a lot of different things you need to learn in order to understand how to play the game properly. Additionally, Nioh 2 has a lot more content and more replayability than Surge 2.

Also if you are someone who wants to play with friends Nioh 2 offers co-op and you can play with up to two other players.

Visuals

Nioh 2 has a lot better visuals than Surge 2, but both games look good so this isn’t really a big advantage that you need to consider when deciding between these two games.

The important difference between these two games is the customization they offer. Nioh 2 has a far superior character creation system and you can change your character even after you start the story of the game.

Another amazing thing Nioh 2 offers is the equipment transmogrification system, meaning that you are able to change the appearance of any armor or weapon you have to the appearance of another weapon or armor you have gotten in the game and keep the item’s stats.

Final Thoughts

Let me summarize what you should remember from this article.

First, when it comes to the storyline, Nioh 2 has a little better storyline but I wouldn’t recommend either game for the story.

Second, in the gameplay department, I prefer Nioh 2’s combat system, and Nioh 2 is also more challenging, has more replayability and content, better bosses and you can play co-op with friends.

As for the visuals, Nioh 2 offers a lot more customization options and has better graphics.

All in all Nioh 2 is a better game and it’s worth the full price but if you can wait for sale then I recommend you wait.
